Laboratory

Our laboratory is the beating heart of all the magic behind every ceramic creation. Here, skilled craftsmen work with passion and dedication to transform simple clay into extraordinary works of art. Every day, this space becomes the place where craftsmanship merges with technical precision, while expert hands shape every detail, making each piece a testament to the skill and care we put into our work. In our workshop, art and passion combine with the elements of Water, Fire and Earth to give life to objects that tell the story of our land, enhance it in colours and shapes, and bring a little of this corner of the world into every home.

History

Unlike Vietri ceramics, famous for its elaborate designs and colours, Sorrento artistic ceramics are distinguished by the use of a warm and sunny colour palette, inspired by the bright and vibrant colours of the sun and the sea. The designs are characterised by their simplicity and essentiality, emphasised by the skilful application of colours. Here you will find the sea and the sky, nature and animals, all stylised in elegant arabesques that celebrate the beauty of the land of their birth. Ceramics are not just a simple ornamental object, but an integral part of the identity of the place where they are created. It is a precious memento to give as a gift and to keep for oneself, a testimony to the extraordinary art of the master potters of Sorrento.

Production

The colouring process begins with the enamelling step, the moment when a layer of white enamel is gently applied to the surface of the piece. Although it may seem like a simple step, enamelling requires great skill on the part of the craftsman, who must be precise in dosing the right amount of enamel to evenly cover the entire surface. The craftsman can then proceed to the pictorial decoration, known as 'over-glaze' with colours obtained from ground natural minerals, mixed with water and applied with brushes of different sizes. This is followed by vitrification, during which a vitreous paste called 'crystalline' is sprayed onto the decorated object. This is followed by the second firing, known as the 'beauty firing', which serves to fix the decoration and the object takes on a shiny, glossy appearance. Last but not least, it also becomes waterproof.

Small tips for caring for ceramics:

It is advisable to wash ceramic objects by hand, in the case of using a dishwasher you should set a specific washing cycle for porcelain by placing the objects not too close together to avoid them touching each other. Do not use metal wool pads or abrasive detergents to clean ceramics
Avoid using it in the oven or microwave, as the intense heat may damage the ceramic, causing objects to break. It is preferable to soak objects in lukewarm water with a common dishwashing detergent, then gently rinse and dry them. To clean tall, narrow vases, you can either pour lukewarm water with a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda and let it soak for about an hour or a little vinegar with two tablespoons of coarse salt, shaking until the base of the vase is clean.By following these tips, you can keep your pottery beautiful and in good condition over time.
